Nikwax Techwash - A soap-based detergent that can be used when washing impregnated clothing and equipment from both natural and synthetic materials. It reactivates the garment's impregnation and water-repellent properties, removes dirt and residues of old detergent.

When washing functional materials, fabric softener should never be used. The fabric softener acts as a conditioner that leaves a coating that clogs the pores in the material's fibers and thus counteracts the moisture-transporting properties regardless of whether it is natural, (wool, cotton) or synthetic material.

When your garment has been worn and the water repellent (DWR) coating has started to show signs of wear, for example by not beading the water the way it did when the garment was new even after washing with Nikwax detergent, it is time for a re-impregnation.
